Medical Credentialing Services Could Have Prevented Michigan Nurse Fraud Case
We recently came across a press release article on justice.gov, “Nurse Impostor Pleads Guilty To Identity Theft And Making False Medical Records” that truly warrants the need for provider credentialing companies. “The allegations that Ms. Gallarzo faked being a licensed nurse and created false medical records are extremely alarming. By allegedly posing as a certified medical professional, she risked patient care and put unsuspecting individuals in harm’s way,” said U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Mark Totten.
In this case, false documentation could have been identified if the facility utilized a medical credentialing agency like MPR for primary source verification. Credentialing documents and medical background checks regarding this individual would have verified the applicant for:
- Education
- Training
- State Licensure
