Does the MPR verification process meet primary source verification requirements?

Yes. Each Initial Appointment Application and Reappointment Application is verified through primary source contacts and, therefore, meets all national accreditation and licensing standards.

Where can I find the Request To Send Application form?

The Request To Send Application form can be found on the MPR website by selecting the Request to Send Application button. Complete the form online or return a print version to the MPR office via fax or regular mail. Once the Request To Send Application form is received, MPR will mail an Initial Appointment Application to the applicant/practitioner.

Do I have to use the classification folder provided by MPR for initial appointment applications?

Some clients prefer MPR to provide initial appointment files in a segmented classification folder.  You do not have to use the folder provided.  MPR can present the file to you without the folder if requested by the client.  The tabs on the classification file are not labeled so the file may be re-arranged as needed by the client or used in another capacity.

Are the files presented to the client complete or does the client need to add further information to the file once it is received?

MPR provides a complete and thorough initial and reappointment file to each client.  It is our mission to provide our clients with as much information as possible to avoid further work on the file once it is received.  Some accreditation standards require on-going monitoring of the practitioner and the data presented at the time of reappointment. This in-house monitoring activity can be attached to the reappointment applications received from MPR and presented to the medical staff and board for action.

How long does it take to process an Initial Appointment Application?

Our average turn-around-time (TAT) for processing an Initial Appointment Application is 45 days.  Some files take longer and some files (especially of a recent graduate) do not take as long to process. If preferred, the file may be released to the client for processing upon request with outstanding verifications sent under separate cove.  The TAT for clients needing to meet NCQA accreditation standards is shorter due to the type of verifications required.

How long does it take to process a Reappointment Application?

Our average turn-around-time (TAT) for processing a Reappointment Application is 7 days.  Some files can be processed in as little as 4 days depending on the length of time to obtain a claims history from the insurance company and receive the professional reference for those files where professional references are required.

Will I be notified of Reappointment packets being mailed to my practitioners?

Yes, MPR will notify its facility clients each month of the applications being mailed to its practitioners.  The client will have the ability to request a packet not be mailed to a practitioner if the applicant is leaving the facility soon or reappointment is not necessary.

Can I provide the facility-specific information in the initial appointment and reappointment packets?

Yes, we often have clients that want MPR to include facility-specific information (risk management plans, medical staff bylaws, confidentiality statements, etc.) in the initial appointment packets, reappointment packets or both.  MPR references its system for each client to determine what information they require to be shared at the time of initial appointment or reappointment.

Is it necessary to provide a copy of the practitioner’s clinical privileges to MPR for each reappointment application?

Joint Commission accredited facilities/clients provide MPR with either a copy of the privileges the practitioner currently holds for the reappointment process or require a new clinical privilege form for each reappointment cycle.  MPR will adopt whichever method the client would like to pursue. Our Joint Commission clients usually require a professional reference letter for reappointment because they need to prove clinical competency in the privileges requested.

Do I need to let MPR know of changes to clinical privileges?

Practitioner privileges are often revised in the periods between reappointment cycles/activity.  It is not necessary to inform MPR of the changes that have been approved.

What happens if a practitioner changes his/her address?

The credentialing process is deemed a partnership between MPR and its practitioner clients. MPR records attach a practitioner to an address in its database that is consulted for reappointment packets, insurance enrollment, etc. Therefore, it is critical that practitioners keep MPR update with the most current address information.

What happens if the contact person at my facility changes?

Communication is a key component to the success of any credentialing process.  When a contract with MPR is signed, a credentialing contact is identified. When a key contact personnel change occurs, MPR has found a site visit to the facility is extremely beneficial.  During the visit, MPR explains the credentialing process and its interaction with the facility’s internal systems to the new staff person.  Please contact MPR if the credentialing contact at your facility changes.

Can I request reports for my facility?

Reports can be requested as needed.  There is no limit on the number of reports produced for each facility in any given time frame.  The most common reports requested include a listing of practitioners currently found in the MPR database, the turn-around-time for a given time period (quarterly, annually, etc.) and a credentialing activity report that includes the initial appointment/reappointment activity on all practitioners within a given time frame.
